Harmony Counselling

CFSR Informants / Volunteers who suggest strategies for contacting and communicating with minority ethnic communities in Scotland

`We want to promote the issues around harmony, integration, equal opportunities and sense of belonging throughout Scotland' Leijune Ye, Chineses Community in Dundee

`Harmony Counselling'

  • offers consultation to identify needs and provide information, advice and opportunities for volunteers / minority ethnic communities to come together, understand the issues around promoting harmony, integration and equal opportunities, reduce isolation and resolve their problems.
  • intends to reach out to others who have more difficulty in understanding, bring more people to work together in the battle against inequality, create understanding and encourage communications and connections within and between communities.

What emerges from harmony counselling is an increased awareness and capacity of minority ethnic communities to engage with community agenda in order to establish stronger more vibrant communities, accompanied by cultural diversity in an environment of equality, mutual respect, trust, cooperation, understanding, tolerance and peace. A client who receives harmony counselling is able to more effectively deal with racism and promote race equality within wider community.

`Harmony counselling' helps all volunteers learn to adapt to the host community in which they know why they should play an active community, economic and political role. Through `Harmony Counselling' we also aim to find out all sorts of discrimination and inequalities in accessing services and better ways to implement integration and equal opportunties ideas and raise awareness of the needs and aspirations of members of minority ethnic groups.

`Harmony Counselling' IDEA operates on the basis of optimising harmony through maximising problem resolution. The idea includes:

  • Harmony Counselling (question and feedback, problem resolution and review and advice)
  • Research and Consultation
  • Training and Development

--------------------------------------------

Harmony Counselling

It is an exciting new idea unique in Scotland that intends to promote a strong sense of harmony, not discord in communities and people's lives. We want to show how essentially `Harmony Counselling' can underpin the belief that everyone can work together in the battle against ignorance, inequality and disharmony and that each person should feel a sense of belonging. Through this new idea it is possible to respond effectively to the changing needs that arise out of the creation of new communities in Scotland, pace of change, state of relations between different people, communities and cultures, and the introduction of new technology .
